Those venues making the foodie headlines at this time include…

SIX, the exciting new contemporary British restaurant overlooking Trent Bridge, announced the appointment of ex-Chino Latino and half of the truly exciting duo behind Nakama, Paul Thacker, as their new head chef.  Paul joins forces with Michelin star chef, Tom Sellers, to develop the menu and handle the day to day running of the restaurant. Sellers, another Nottingham talent, grew up in East Leake before making a name for himself in the kitchens of Tom Aikens, Thomas Keller and René Redzepi and receiving his star for his work at Restaurant Story in London.

Besides offering diners the opportunity to experience some excellent cuisine in what has to be a truly unique setting, its Sellers aim to offer a gastronomic leg up to young talent in the area who want to make a name for themselves in the kitchen or front of house.

Partnering up with The Princes Trust – Sellers is an ambassador for the Trust – ‘Get into Restaurant Services’ programme in Nottinghamshire offers youngster the opportunity to join a four-week course in which they receive tuition from experienced industry professionals which, of course, includes Tom Sellers.  Other Nottinghamshire restaurants have also signed up to the programme, they include World Service, Bar Iberico, Holy Calzone, Tilt Bar, The Pelican Club and The Herbert Kilpin.

The food and drink scene has been quiet in February but there’s several openings to look forward to, including; The Yacht Club which is due to open on the 5th March in the old Bear & Lace premises on Maid Marian Way.  The new venture is the latest creation from the team behind near neighbours, The Calcutta Club.

Tipu Sultan, serving food from Pakistan is the third offering (behind Birmingham and Leicester) to open soon in the old Fat Cat venue in Sherwood; same area, different style, The Snobby Butcher from the charismatic, Johnny Pusztai, is still on course to open soon – keep in touch via their facebook or twitter page @JohnnyPusztai.  Back in the city, keep an eye on the previous Griddle & Shake unit at Fletchergate… we hear that place is about to make a splash all of its own!
